You don’t have to agree with every finding to support a proper examination of the evidence.
Our request is an independent review of protection, health, ecology, alternatives and public spending. Its findings should guide decisions about where burning delivers full public benefit and where changes are justified.
Seven practical requests

These unpack the report’s recommendations into seven actions. They support properly funded firefighters and recognise Aboriginal-led cultural fire on its own terms.
Commission an independent comparison
Compare locally appropriate strategies with and without additional burning, including targeted treatment and household protection.
Count the full public benefits and costs
Include homes and lives protected, treatment and future wildfire smoke, ecological recovery, displacement and costs borne by households and government.
Publish assumptions and uncertainty
Show model coverage, sensitivity tests, reused inputs and how realistic treatment performance or new evidence could change the ranking.
Make smoke safeguards auditable
Compare predicted and measured exposure, publish decisions to proceed or postpone, coordinate burns and provide effective notice and support throughout the affected area.
Protect habitat recovery
Record cumulative fire history, justify habitat-specific intervals and exceptions, retain refuges and monitor soils, vegetation and threatened species.
Test alternatives and support households
Fund fair trials of locally appropriate alternatives, including maintenance and side effects, and help households unable to afford protective upgrades.
Make funding and spending visible
Publish commissioning, funders, conflicts and stakeholder input. Report treatment, preparedness and suppression spending separately while maintaining firefighting capability.
